Interior
What immediately stands out is the warm and cozy atmosphere on the ship. There are beautiful communal areas that can be well heated in polar regions, and there are also ten comfortable two-person cabins.
Communal areas
This is the perfect place to share stories, enjoy meals, or simply relax with a good book. The ship offers both upstairs and downstairs communal areas, providing space for everyone to spend quality time together.
Cabins
In the lower part of the ship, you’ll find 10 cozy cabins, each featuring a comfortable bunk bed. These cabins provide a place to rest after a day full of adventure. The shared sanitary facilities are well-maintained and easily accessible.
Deck
The deck of the ship is where guests can enjoy the beautiful scenery, help the sailing crew, or simply breathe in the fresh air. It’s the perfect place to take in the surroundings, feel the wind, and experience life at sea.
Rhythm aboard a Tall Ship
Living together on board is a fantastic experience, regardless of age. The group dynamic is one of the most important aspects of a sea voyage, making the ship’s setup ideal for leadership voyages.
Professional kitchen
A variety of meals is prepared in the professional galley. Our chefs cook delicious dishes to keep the expedition sailors energized in rough weather and to let them enjoy meals together in serene, deserted bays.
Join our watch systems
While on board, you can join the sea watch system to experience the ship’s 24-hour rhythm. It’s a fantastic experience and we highly recommend to get involved! During the day, there are times when everyone is awake for non-sailing activities. You can help with small maintenance tasks, participate in workshops on astronavigation, photography, cooking, or leadership skills, or simply share something with the group.

What unites our guests
Noorderlicht, with its ice-strengthened bow, is the most beautiful tall ship in the fleet, welcoming all ages. Families with children, elderly sailors, fathers with sons, mothers with daughters, and friends—everyone is invited. What unites our guests is their desire for a unique voyage, enjoying outdoor life, the ocean, and the countries we visit. Sailing aboard Noorderlicht fosters friendships among crew and guests alike, sometimes resulting in lasting bonds and shared memories captured in photos.
Communication
As soon as Noorderlicht is a few sea miles from shore, a sense of peace descends on the ship: there’s no cellphone connection anymore. Can you imagine a day without your mobile phone? This is life onboard Noorderlicht, with no contact with the outside world.
Contact with outside world
Of course, Noorderlicht has other means to maintain 24/7 contact with the outside world. In case of emergency, we can always be reached and can always reach others.
During the voyage, the captain provides daily updates about the current situation, the ship’s location, and future plans. These moments are always enjoyable.
And there’s always, 24/7, someone you can immediately talk to, ask your questions to or discuss things with.

Safety and Licenses
From June to September, Noorderlicht sails with individuals, businesses, and offers corporate hospitality or leadership training trips. In October, November, April, and May, Noorderlicht navigates the North and South Atlantic Ocean, visiting the Canary Islands, Brazil, the Caribbean, and the Azores with the Masterskip program for secondary school pupils. Noorderlicht meets all necessary licenses and safety measures to perform these journeys.
Safety
Noorderlicht sails under the Dutch flag and meets all requirements set worldwide, European-wide and nationally. Our crew’s certificates are also always up-to-date and we carry out exercises on board to practice for different situations, to maintain a very high lever safety.
License
Noorderlicht is licensed to sail worldwide and can sail wherever she wants. With her ice strengthened bow she can also set the course for the Arctic and Antarctic regions.
Noorderlicht specifications
The word ‘schooner’ originates from the verb ‘to scon’, meaning ‘to send over water’. Schooners can have between two and six masts, and on a two-mast schooner, the foremast is smaller than the aft mast. With its high gaff-topsails and beautiful hull, the Noorderlicht is a sight to behold.
